2 dead, teen arrested in shooting outside Foothills Mall in Fort Collins

Two people died in a potentially “gang-affiliated” shooting outside the Foothills Mall in Fort Collins on Saturday, police said.

Both victims were shot outside, on a sidewalk between the parking lot and the mall, according to a news release from the Fort Collins Police Department. Police said paramedics took the two to the hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

A teenager, who police did not identify because of his age, was arrested Sunday in connection to the shooting, police said.

The shooting happened at about 5 p.m. Saturday. It shut down the Foothills Mall and adjoining movie theater until midnight while investigators cleared the scene, evacuated customers who were sheltered in place and collected evidence, according to the news release.

Police said officers started letting people out of the mall at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The mall is just off South College Avenue at 215 East Foothills Parkway.

Investigators don’t believe there are additional victims and said the shooting may be “a gang-associated crime.”

Police “intentionally did not mention the names of the gangs to prevent any notoriety,” the release stated.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Fort Collins investigators at 970-221-6580 or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
