73-year-old man charged in fatal hit-and-run in Aurora

A 73-year-old man has been charged in the hit-and-run deaths of a man and his dog on Thursday evening in Aurora.

Michael Graham-Hyde hit a man and his dog, who were walking on the sidewalk, when he lost control while driving an SUV at a high speed traveling westbound on East Wesley Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a news release from Aurora Police Department. The dog was killed instantly and the man was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Graham-Hyde turned himself in in the early hours of Friday morning after fleeing the scene at the time of the crash, according to the release. He was charged with careless driving resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor and Graham-Hyde is cooperating with the investigation, according to the release. The Arapahoe County Coroner will identify the man who was killed.
