Border Czar Homan: Every Media ‘Hit Piece’ Fuels ‘My Fire’

The criticism from the legacy media, and every protest outside his home, “throws more gas on my fire,” border czar Tom Homan says.

Every “hit piece” Homan reads criticizing his campaign to arrest and deport illegal aliens confirms “I’m over the target,” the border czar told Then Daily Signal.

Hundreds of protesters demonstrated outside Homan’s lake house in New York in early April, though he was not at home at the time.

“The difference between me and everybody else—I honestly don’t care what people think about me,” Homan said, adding, “as long as my family and my Lord and Savior think I’m doing the right thing … I don’t care what the media thinks about me.”

On March 31, The Atlantic published a piece reporting the Trump administration deported a Maryland father with “protected legal status,” but failed to mention that the man had reported ties to the MS-13 gang.

“Where was the Atlantic when half a million kids were smuggling into this country?” Homan asked, adding: “Where were they when [the Biden administration] can’t find 300,000 of the kids release to sponsors?”

In August 2024, Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported that it did not know the location or status of more than 300,000 migrant children.

“Where was the Atlantic when there’s a 600% increase in sex trafficking because of the Biden administration?” the border czar continued. “Where was the Atlantic when we had a record number of people on the terrorist watch list crossing the border? Where’s the Atlantic … as Americans died of fentanyl coming across the border?”

Last summer, a congressional report found that at least 99 illegal aliens on America’s terrorist watch list had been released into the United States.

Customs and Border Protection seized more than 68,000 pounds of fentanyl at U.S. borders or ports of entry under the Biden administration, compared with about 20,000 pounds during the first Trump administration, which preceded it, according to CBP data.

Though President Donald Trump and Homan are receiving criticism from some on the Left for their deportation of illegal aliens, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has met with Homan a number of times despite the Big Apple being a sanctuary city.

Homan said Adams wants his community to be safe, and while there’s more to be done, Adams has “taken the first step” by allowing ICE agents to access and utilize and the prison on Rikers Island in the East River in the Bronx.

Leaders of other sanctuary cities have not been willing to corroborate with Homan as Adams has.

Boston’s Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu says she will not cooperate with ICE, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson won’t allow local police to work with ICE to enforce deportation orders. Yet ICE agents have made arrests of illegal aliens in Boston and Chicago, and Homan says there are more to come.

“I’ll be going back to Boston, not once, not twice, but many times,” he said.

Under Trump and Homan’s leadership, the administration has carried out more than 100,000 deportations since Jan. 20 and made 113,000 arrests of illegal immigrants.

“Numbers are good, numbers are outstanding, but we got to do more,” Homan said, adding that he is “happy” with the number of deportations, but “not satisfied yet.”

“We got to get more,” the border czar said. “Congress needs to step up and fund this operation, because we need to be more successful than we already are.”

ICE has prioritized the arrest and removal of criminal illegal aliens, and among the 100,000 deported so far, Homan says, “the majority” had either already been convicted of a crime or had pending criminal charges against them.

Still, illegal aliens without a criminal record are “not off the table,” he said.

“The best thing to do is just follow the direction of the courts if you’ve been ordered removed and leave,” Homan said. “And if you’re here illegally, and you haven’t been ordered removed yet, leave on your own. Give yourself a future opportunity to come back to the greatest country on earth the right way.”
