Colorado road conditions: Snowstorm, winter weather shuts down parts of I-70
CDOT cameras in the area of the closure show at least two semitrailers that appear to have slid off the slick, snow-covered stretch of eastbound I-70 near Limon.
Snow continues to fall across central and southern Colorado on Thursday and transportation officials said the winter weather is shutting down roads and causing crashes.
As of 10:15 a.m., eastbound Interstate 70 was closed between U.S. 40 and U.S. 24, about three miles west of Limon, for a crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Cameras in the area at 8 a.m. showed at least two semitrailers that appeared to have slid off the slick, snow-covered highway. By 10 a.m., traffic was able to slowly pass the crash on the highway’s shoulder, but the area remained closed.
Westbound I-70 is also closed east of Denver between Exit 295 for I-70 Business North and Exit 292 for Airpark Road west of Watkins, according to CDOT.
Other road closures as of 10:15 a.m. include:
- Colorado 86, also known as Founders Parkway, in both directions between Kiowa and I-70 north of Limon
- Northbound Colorado 115 near Penrose, between G Street and County Road F45, for a crash
