EXCLUSIVE: Vance to Give Remarks at Screening of Docuseries on Christian Dissidents in USSR

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Vice President JD Vance will attend a premiere of Rod Dreher’s Angel Studios series on Christian dissidents in Soviet-era Russia on Tuesday.

Vance will deliver remarks prior to a showing of a docuseries at The Heritage Foundation about Christian survivors of the USSR based on American Conservative editor-at-large Dreher’s book “Live Not By Lies.”

The documentary will follow Dreher to Europe and beyond, “where he’ll walk us through the streets of 20th-century Soviet terror and interview the men and women who survived the deadliest century the world has ever known,” according to Angel Studios’ website.

“We’re looking to inspire a new generation of people in the West and Americans in particular by reinforcing the idea that telling the truth is the best policy,” producer R.J. Moeller told The Daily Signal.

Following the screening of the four-part series, Angel Studios chief content officer Jeff Harmon will moderate a discussion and Q&A with Dreher and series director Isaiah Smallman.

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts will introduce the vice president prior to his remarks.

“The main thrust of this series is exploring the real life stories of folks who survived Russian communism in the 20th century, who survived that persecution,” Moeller said, “and the way they did it was by living in truth, by telling the truth.”

Vance is a longtime friend of “Live Not By Lies” author Dreher and a supporter of the docuseries, according to Moeller.

“Vice President Vance has been supportive of this project for a while now,” Moeller said. “We’ve kept him in the loop. We let him know that there was going to be a screening in D.C., and he said, ‘I’d love to come out and support and help be a part of this.’”

“He clearly cares about this issue at a deep level,” Moeller continued. “There’s also the added personal connection with Rod and our team.”

The first episode of the series drops Tuesday.

Vance, a Catholic, has been a strong defender of religious freedom in America and abroad.

He was the keynote speaker at the International Religious Freedom Summit, an annual gathering of the biggest players in preserving religious conscience around the world. Vance also headlined the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in February.

His first public speech as vice president was at the 2025 March for Life on Jan. 24 in Washington, D.C.

“No longer will the federal government direct FBI raids on the homes of people like Mark Houck and other Catholic and Christian activists who are fighting for the unborn every single day,” Vance told pro-lifers in the audience that day. “And no longer will our government throw pro-life protesters and activists, elderly grandparents, or anybody else in prison. It stopped on [Jan. 20], and we’re not going to let it come back to this country.”
