A Golden man died Sunday afternoon after falling in The Riviera climbing area west of Boulder.

Golden man dies after falling 20 feet in Boulder Canyon climbing area

A climber from Golden died Sunday afternoon after falling in the Riviera climbing area west of Boulder.

At 3:15 p.m. Sunday, dispatchers received a 911 text that stated a climber had been injured in the 33700 block of Boulder Canyon Drive, according to a news release from Boulder County. As sheriff’s deputies responded, more 911 texts came through stating that CPR was in progress and the 41-year-old man was unresponsive.

First responders found that the man, who had been climbing with family and friends, died after falling approximately 20 feet.

Rescue crews brought the man down from the climbing area and to the road, according to the news release.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is responsible for identifying the man and notifying the next of kin.

Responding agencies included Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Emergency Services, Boulder Emergency Squad, Rocky Mountain Rescue, Sunshine Fire District, American Medical Response, Boulder County Coroner’s Office and Boulder County Victim Advocates.
