One firefighter was taken to the hospital after a residential fire burned two single-family homes in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood, according to South Metro Fire Rescue officials.

The two-alarm house fire in the 10200 block of Woodrose Lane in Douglas County started burning Thursday afternoon, South Metro officials said in a post on X. It was under control as of 3:15 p.m.

Two people and two firefighters were evaluated for “heat-related issues” by medics and one firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the agency.

Investigators believe the fire started outside between the two homes before spreading. Residents in both homes, including three dogs and a cat, were safely evacuated.
