Laneige is best known for its ultra-hydrating (and deliciously flavorful) lip masks, but there's more to the K-beauty brand than rockstar pout-perfecting products. The label's lineup of skincare essentials includes face moisturizers, overnight masks, and makeup enhancers. We tested 10 Laneige products - bestsellers and under-appreciated heroes - to help you narrow down the must-have items to add to your next purchase.
Water Bank Gentle Gel Cleanser
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
The Laneige Gentle Gel Cleanser is a lightweight formula, as its name would suggest. It contains Blue Hyaluronic Acid for optimal hydration, allantoin to smooth the skin, and an amino-acid complex to support the skin barrier.
Though face wash is said to remove impurities and makeup, because it's so gentle, I likely wouldn't use it in the evenings when I have heavy makeup to slough off. It's better for light or no-makeup days and washing when you wake up in the morning. That said, it did make my skin feel clean before bed.
Bouncy Firm Sleeping Mask
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
I'm obsessed with how the Bouncy Firm Sleeping Mask makes my skin feel. It absorbs quickly and leaves my complexion soft and smooth to the touch, thanks to ingredients like peony, collagen peptides, evening primrose, and apricot extract. After application, I did experience redness around my cheeks and nose and a strong (not unpleasant) smell, but it calmed down after a few minutes.
I also felt a tightening effect on my forehead post-application. According to a self-assessment study of 30 women ages 20-40 administered by Laneige, 94% of participants noticed firmer skin, while 83% saw a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. If the aforementioned tightening effect indicates the mask is working its magic, I will finish this container.
Bouncy & Firm Eye Brightening Sleep Mask
Julia Guerra/Business insider
I applied the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Eye Brightening Sleep Mask under my eyes and around my crow's feet. Similar to the Bouncy & Firm Sleep Mask, I only felt the firming effects in one target area, this time my crow's feet. Unlike the face mask, I didn't wake up with any lingering tightness, but the dark circles around my eyes did appear a smidge lighter. I have a theory eye creams don't work, but I would love for this one to prove me wrong. Based on my first impressions, I like the tugging feeling at the corners of my eye.
Cica Night Mask
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
The Cica Sleeping Mask was my biggest disappointment, not because it's a bad product, but because I just wasn't wowed by it. The formula takes longer to set compared to the brand's other overnight treatments. I didn't have much redness when I applied it, which meant it was doing what it intended: soothing. Plus, my skin is breaking out as I write this, so the anti-inflammatory properties of the included shea butter are appreciated.
One online reviewer noted that their skin felt "like glass" when they woke up after using the Cica Night Mask, but that wasn't my experience. After seven hours of sleep, the mask still wasn't completely absorbed into my skin, and my complexion felt a little tacky. My skin did feel soft after a rinse, but I wasn't blown away.
Water Bank Gel Moisturizer
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
Fans of Tatcha's Water Cream will love this formula from Laneige, as it's comparable in texture. Both feel weightless on the skin. Highlighted ingredients include squalane to lock in moisture, niacinamide (vitamin B3) for radiance, and a probiotic-derived complex. The moisturizer was completely absorbed after I brushed my teeth and got into bed. I wouldn't say it leaves the skin feeling soft by morning, but it does feel smooth and well-hydrated.
Water Bank Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Intensive Moisturizer
Kenedee Fowler/Insider
I fell in love with the cream's lightweight formula and its subtle fresh scent. It also left my oily/combination skin feeling moisturized the whole day. The moisturizer's key ingredients are hyaluronic acid and green mineral water. Laneige's website describes the product's formula as "extracts to help strengthen skin's moisture barrier."
Water Sleeping Mask
Kenedee Fowler/Insider
After a positive reaction to the Water Bank Moisturizer Cream, I decided to try the Water Sleeping Mask. Laneige describes it as "a hydrating gel mask that quickly absorbs while you sleep."
After applying the mask to my face, my skin immediately feels hydrated. This is a once or twice-a-week application with 2.3 ounces of product, which is the perfect amount to tide you over for a while.
Lip Sleeping Mask
Maiya Pascouche/Business Insider
I don't usually buy skincare products because of my sensitive skin, so I started out safe using Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask, not just at night but throughout the day. I really liked how it left my lips feeling soft, hydrated, and shiny. This small jar comes with 0.7 ounces of product and contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and antioxidants.
Bouncy and Firm Plumping Lip Mask
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
I was not expecting any lip product to bump Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask out of the top spot of my ranking, but the Bouncy and Firm Plumping Lip Mask is that impressive. I am obsessed with the consistency: it drenched my lips with moisture, reminiscent of an early 2000s gloss that lasted throughout the night and into the morning. The only downside to this product compared to the OG Lip Sleeping Mask is that it doesn't have much of a taste.
Lip Glowy Balm
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
Laneige's Glowy Balm is the kind of lip emergency lip balm you leave by your bedside or in your bag. The product is aptly named and does as advertised; it's formulated with Shea and Murumuru Seed butters to douse your smile in moisture and leaves a glossy finish along your pout. Still, I'd argue Glowy Balm leans cosmetic; I'd stick with the Lip Sleeping Mask for a hydrating treatment.
Glowy Makeup Serum
Julia Guerra/Business Insider
The Glowy Makeup Serum is the only product on this list that doesn't match its name in practice. The serum might be glowy and beautiful, but it didn't make my skin glowy and dewy like I expected. Per Laneige standards, it does add moisture to the skin, and because it's formulated with diamond mineral powder that smooths the skin, it acts as an excellent primer for makeup.
The bottom line
Laneige products can be incorporated into any skincare routine; the sleep masks work magic overnight, and achieving a healthy, hydrated smile is as easy as swapping your current go-to lip products for the brand's balmy glosses. Our favorite Laneige products are the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Moisturizer, the Bouncy and Firm Lip Plumping Mask, the Firming Mask, and the Gentle Gel Cleanser, but the Cica Night Mask would be great for those who often experience redness.
I have recommended the Laneige Lip Sleeping mask to everyone who would listen to me wax poetic about its moisturizing powers. After testing 10 products from the brand's selection, I would encourage anyone with dry skin or in need of the occasional hydration hero to stock up on its myriad of moisturizing products.
