A man was shot and killed Saturday night by police officers responding to a “family disturbance” in Colorado Springs, officials said.
Colorado Springs officers responded to the disturbance at a home in the 3100 block of Illinois Avenue just before 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the police department.
Two family members escaped the home before officers arrived, leaving one person inside the home with the unidentified suspect, police said.
Police said the man was armed and did not follow multiple commands from officers to drop the gun. When he started to raise the gun, two Colorado Springs officers shot the man, police said.
Officers provided medical aid, but the man died at the scene of the shooting.
No other shots were fired and no one else, including police officers and the other family members, was injured, police said.
The two police officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigates the police shooting, per department policy, police said.
