Prime Time: 2 CU Buffs football games moved to Friday night by Big 12

Deion Sanders and his CU Buffs are being moved to prime time — again.

The Big 12 announced Friday morning that two CU football games, including the home opener, are being moved from Saturday to Friday evening kickoffs. The Buffs’ Week 1 meeting with Georgia Tech will now kick on Friday, Aug. 29, and CU’s visit to Houston will now kick on Friday, Sept. 12.

The Yellow Jackets contest was originally slated for Saturday, Sept. 30, while the Cougars visit had been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13.

The Buffs kicked off five games in 2023 that started after 5 p.m. Mountain time. They played seven such tilts last season, including their first four (vs. North Dakota State, at Nebraska, at CSU, vs. Baylor).

CU fans should prepare to be flexible when it comes to kickoff times. While the first three weekends of the season are expected to be “locked in” by late May or early June with television networks such as ESPN and FOX, any game after that will be fixed to a time and channel 12 days ahead of game day. And four of those games can be moved six days ahead of kickoff, according to the Big 12’s broadcast contracts.
