Very dry and windy conditions are forecast this afternoon, leading to numerous hours of critical fire weather conditions and extreme values of the Grassland Fire Danger Index. Winds are forecast to be from the southwest for much of the day before a shift to the northwest is forecast during the late afternoon as a cold front moves into the area. Blowing dust may reduce visibilities down to a mile or less at time is possible in the Watched areas, which may create delayed response times of first responders. The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon today to 7 PM MDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 027 Wallace and 254 Cheyenne. * TIMING...From noon today to 7 PM MDT this evening. * WINDS...West 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
