Very dry and windy conditions are forecast this afternoon, leading to numerous hours of critical fire weather conditions and extreme values of the Grassland Fire Danger Index. Winds are forecast to be from the southwest for much of the day before a shift to the northwest is forecast during the late afternoon as a cold front moves into the area. Blowing dust may reduce visibilities down to a mile or less at time is possible in the Warned areas, which may create delayed response times of first responders. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 004 Norton, 016 Graham, 027 Wallace, 028 Logan, 029 Gove, 041 Greeley, 042 Wichita and 254 Cheyenne. * TIMING...From noon MDT /1 PM CDT/ today to 7 PM MDT /8 PM CDT/ this evening. * WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 14 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
