Rockies Recap: Brenton Doyle, Ryan McMahon spark 15-hit outburst

On the mound: Right-hander Bradley Blalock, in the mix to break camp with the starting rotation, continues to pitch well. He pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks. The right-hander’s ERA sits at 1.29. … Right-hander Angel Chivilli, armed with his devastating fastball-change combination, gave up a hit and a walk in the eighth but struck out three to escape without giving up a run. … Right-hander Seth Halvorsen, in the running to be the closer, gave up a run on two hits in the ninth. With his fastball reaching 100 mph, he struck out three.
At the plate: The Rockies, who improved to 9-3-1 in Cactus League play, continued to hit the ball well, rapping out 15 hits. … Center fielder Brenton Doyle, penciled in as Colorado’ leadoff hitter, hit 2 for 3 with a solo homer in the fourth. … Third baseman Ryan McMahon raised his average to .412 and his OPS to 1.029 with a 2-for-2 afternoon that included a two-run double in the Rockies’ five-run second. … Left fielder Nolan Jones is beginning to emerge from an early spring slump. He hit two singles, raising his average .143.
Prospect watch: Right-hander Zach Agnos, hoping to impress enough to earn a spot in the big-league bullpen, served up solo home runs to Tyler Stephenson and Will Benson in Cincinnati’s two-run sixth. Agnos has a 5.40 ERA.
