It’s no secret that American colleges and universities, once revered as pillars of intellectual integrity, have devolved into hotbeds of anti-American ideologies and radical left-wing activism. Rather than fostering critical thinking, they are actively pushing toxic agendas and even championing dangerous extremism.

But now, we have a chance to change all that.

The Donald Trump administration’s decisive action to strip federal funding from universities that have allowed extremist ideologies to thrive has opened a critical opportunity for alumni and donors to step in and make a meaningful difference.

If you truly care about the future of your alma mater—or if you just want your kid or grandkid to be able to attend without becoming a Hamas-supporting they/them—it’s time to rip up that next donation check and demand change.

For too long, elite universities like Columbia, Harvard, Brown, and the University of Pennsylvania have been able to operate with impunity on the taxpayers’—and the donors’—dime. These schools have shown that they are determined to prioritize their insane leftist political agenda over their educational mission or even the well-being of their own students.

Over the past year and half, we’ve witnessed escalating chaos on campuses, with out-of-control protests and antisemitic attacks. Jewish students have been harassed while pro-Palestinian groups like Columbia University Apartheid Divest proudly endorse “liberation by any means necessary, including armed resistance.”

These are not isolated incidents—they’re part of a much larger, decades-long trend in which American colleges have become incubators for the worst kinds of anti-American, anti-Western ideals.

And they aren’t limited to the Ivy League. State schools have been infected, too. Like when a Michigan State University professor allegedly compelled 600 students to pay fees to join her political advocacy group as part of her course, funneling nearly $60,000 to fund groups like Planned Parenthood and efforts to “dismantle oppressive systems.”

Or when the University of Wisconsin-Madison began encouraging students to report “microaggressions”—including “being forced to choose male or female when completing forms/paperwork” or “not calling someone by their preferred gender pronouns.”

But the Trump administration’s bold intervention has shifted the momentum, challenging these institutions and setting the stage for real change.

In March, the Department of Education froze $400 million in federal funding to Columbia for its failure to protect Jewish students on campus. Last week, the administration made it clear to Harvard that its nearly $9 billion in federal funding was on the line unless it underwent substantial reforms, including dropping diversity, equity, and inclusion policies; banning masks at protests; and adopting merit-based admissions and hiring. Other universities face similar threats to their federal funding.

The administration has delivered a powerful ultimatum: American colleges and universities must decide whether to cling to their extremist political agendas or start prioritizing the values that once defined them.

This presents a major opportunity for alumni and donors. By withholding your annual gift, you can send a hard-hitting message to your alma mater as it starts searching for other sources of income—especially since these institutions are very reluctant to dip into their endowments.

If your college has become an ideological cesspool that betrays your values, it’s time to stop supporting it. And, if it can afford to hire more DEI staff than history professors, it probably isn’t managing your money wisely anyway. Redirect your donations to institutions and organizations that are committed to preserving the American principles and Western traditions that made these once-great schools so great.

The Trump administration is holding universities accountable for the consequences of their radical ideologies. But alumni also have the power to drive change. By withholding their support and making their voices heard, alumni can help steer these institutions back to their true mission—to educate, not indoctrinate.

The future of higher education—and the future of our country—depend on it.
