Support Denver Westword on Giving NewsDay

Our inbox is overflowing with stories. Another winery is leaving RiNo. Local Indigenous comic Josh Emerson has made a movie, Bad Indian. And yes, Geraldo Rivera just apologized to John Ramsey. So many stories, so little time...and money to cover writing those stories.
Our inbox is also overflowing with requests for contributions. And your inbox may soon get one from me. That's because today is #GivingTuesday, part of a global generosity movement celebrating worthwhile causes. In the media business, it’s been transformed into #GivingNewsDay, a time when people can support their local news outlets and the important work they do.
Since we started Westword in 1977, our weekly paper has always been free. Since we introduced westword.com in 1992, our website has always been free, too. We don't believe in paywalls; we want everyone to have unfettered access to our stories. But while our journalism is free, it doesn't come cheap. So six years ago, recognizing changes in the advertising industry, Westword introduced a voluntary membership program as a way to support both our print and online products; we've been very gratified by the way readers have responded.
Today also happens to mark the start of #NewsCONeeds, a program that will match contributions made to participating Colorado media outlets through the end of December (up to a total of $5,000). Donate now, and your gift will do double duty in helping us reach our goal of $30,000 this month.
