United Airline has been constantly hiring for years as part of a massive expansion at its hub at Denver International Airport.

So far, it’s hired 500 for Denver and Colorado Springs and has a hiring goal of 800 in 2024, said David Gonzalez, a United Airlines spokesperson. The number doesn’t include pilots because new pilots may train at the company’s Flight Training Center in Denver but often end up based elsewhere.

United also recently boosted employment at the Colorado Springs airport after it “insourced all operational roles at Colorado Springs,” he added. He didn’t have a number on new hires in the city, but said it was much smaller than in Denver.

Nationwide, United’s added 7,000 people this year, including pilots and flight attendants. It’s on track to add at least 9,500 new employees nationwide.

The company has more than 10,000 employees in Denver, from about 7,000 two years ago. The increase is credited to the airline’s $1 billion expansion in Denver. It added new gates and new routes. Last year, it hired 2,500 people in Denver alone.

Company officials said United still has challenges finding talent, so it’s added programs like Calibrate and Technician Pathway Program to encourage students, Army reservists and others interested in careers or apprenticeships in aircraft, ground service equipment and facilities maintenance.
